The largest deposit of salt on the planet is found in Bolivia. The Salar de Uyuni (Uyuni salt beds or salt flats) contain over 64 million tons of salt! The Salar contains large amounts of sodium, potassium, lithium and magnesium, as well as borax. Lithium is a vital component of many electric batteries. Bolivia holds about 43% of the world’s lithium reserves. When it rains a thin layer of water lies on top of the salts and it is a sight, as the sky is reflected in the water for as far as the eye can see sometimes. This gives the illusion of being surrounded all over (as in under foot) by skies.
